Fort McMurray First United Church Welcomes You

"All are welcome, all are welcome, all are welcome in this place." - from Let Us Build a House (words and music: Marty Haugen, 2006), More Voices hymnbook

Welcome to Fort McMurray First United Church! Maybe you are searching for a faith home in this community, or for a United Church to visit if you are planning to be in town visiting family and friends. Maybe you have attended in the past and want to reconnect. Maybe you are curious about what the United Church is up to in this beautiful and energetic city. Maybe you are none of the above, but whoever you are, you are welcome!

Since 2010 I have been in ministry with this congregation, journeying in celebration and challenge, including the fire and evacuation, as we seek to follow Jesus and to be the hands and feet of our Christ. Together we praise God in worship, in small groups and in special meals: praying and singing, speaking and listening, in celebration and lament.

I believe God calls each one of us to share our diverse gifts as we live out our faith in community. As Paul told the Corinthians nearly two thousand years ago: "For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ." (1Corinthians 12:12) That means we all have ministries to share, whether it is hospitality -- being a greeter, making coffee, serving food -- or worship leadership, or prayer, or organization, or working with our children, or looking after the building ... or any number of things. And so as we grow together, we are challenged to discern God's call to use our gifts and to be part of what God is doing among us, in our wider community and the world.
